Hello
guys! I hope you had a good week and you are ready for some new music
for your ears! This week I’ve got acquainted with a very unique
music from Father John Misty. My colleague from work suggested to
check his work and album I love you, Honeybear
quickly jumped on my speakers. As soon as I started to play the title
song I was enjoying it.
Father
John Misty is a pseudonym of Josh Tillman. This 38 year-old
musician/producer has started his career in 2004 and since then he’s
been working with many artist across whole USA. The album we talk
about today is a second under Father John Misty moniker. All song are
very approachable and are combination of folk, rock and electronic
music. Many tunes could be without an effort on top of many charts,
not only in the United States. You can’t say a bad word about level
of production and craftsmanship of this album. All beats sound
crispy, guitars are warm and sloted perfectly with other instruments.
Josh Tilman’s vocal is warm and easily memorable. What I especially
liked is that he is aware about the style he chose and he knows what
need to be done to perfectly fill the genre he presents. All swinging
back vocals and additional female vocals create a dreamy and lullaby
style. What is important and most authentic about this record is a
lyric side of Father John Misty. And if I had to sum it up in one
world I would use: peculiar. Going back and forth with lyrics from
the album I can easily say that I’ve
never come
across anyone who was more authentic and out of mainstream. Just to
give a couple
of examples of John Misty unique
writing: “You're
bent over the altar and
the neighbours
are complaining”, “I
wanna take you in the kitchen Lift up your wedding dress someone was
probably murdered in”,
“Knowing just what people wanna hear Binging on unearned attention”
or “Say, do you wanna get married? And put an end to our endless
progressive tendency to scorn provincial concepts like your dowry”.
At first I wanted to make the most of sense I could only get but my
friend (the one who suggested this artist)
looked at me with eyes
of
person who see the struggle
and know you can’t win and said that I should just enjoy it. So I
did it that way. And
as sometimes
I just want to get back to try understand
at least a bit but after 30 seconds I got
back to square
one:
the one that I can just swim with his music and without thinking
savour
myself with soft sound of I
love you, Honeybear.
Conclusion:
I can say that Father John Misty surprised me. It
was
nothing I was expecting before I heard a one note from him. And I see
it as a plus. It’s not an easy task to feel fresh and intriguing
these
days but this album helped
me to
understand
that there is still a
place
for a very original artists
that walk with their own paths. It was a fantastic experience and I
hope more and more original content (with sounds
or lyrics) I will be able to discover and give a positive review!
That's some crazy lyrics but music is so nice to listen to!
